Video: Onboard a Corvette Z06 attacking the Nürburgring

What was the moment that we actually sat up and took American performance cars seriously here in Europe? The Ford GT? Perhaps, though that was a specially-developed supercar. The Dodge Viper? Still a bit crude… No, I’d argue it was the C6 Corvette Z06, of 2006.

Why? Because it was so fast and so capable – enough to worry supercars of the day – without breaking the bank or being a limited-production special. This was Chevrolet’s equivalent of a 911 GT3 and it was almost every bit the equivalent. It’s for this reason and a few others that these cars are extremely popular, among their German rivals, as tools with which to attack the Nürburgring.

And that’s where you find us today, on board a tricked-out C6 Z06 for a properly fast lap of the Green Hell, passing the locals with ease, in a car built an Ocean away. It’s certainly an aural experience, as the driver pulls no punches when wringing out that 7.0-litre LS7 small block. What a car. One day, I will own one…
