Jimmie Johnson, Scott Dixon and Hélio Castroneves are set to switch Indianapolis for Goodwood as they make their historic racing debuts at the 2022 Goodwood Revival on 16th-18th September.

Joining fellow US racing legend, and now Goodwood regular, Dario Franchitti at the Revival, the addition of the most successful NASCAR Cup Series driver of all time, two of the most successful IndyCar drivers ever and history’s most successful Indy 500 driver will mean the Goodwood has a total of 10 IndyCar championships, eight Indy 500 victories and seven NASCAR Cup Series championships racing against each other.

Johnson, who retired from NASCAR competition at the end of the 2020 season, finished his full-time career with 83 race wins, 222 top five finishes and 35 pole positions from 686 top level races. After ending his stock car career, Johnson moved to IndyCar and qualified inside the top 12 for his first ever Indy 500 this weekend.

New Zealander Dixon’s record of six IndyCar championships puts him only behind A. J. Foyt in the all-time standings, while his record of 51 victories across 21 seasons puts him third behind Foyt and Mario Andretti. Dixon was also a long-time Chip Ganassi Racing team-mate to Franchitti during the team’s most dominant period, during which he added his to-date only Indy 500 victory to his glittering trophy cabinet with victory in 2008.

Hélio Castroneves’s 2021 Indy 500 victory made him the joint most successful Indianapolis driver in the history of the race. Hélio’s four victories at the Brickyard puts him equal with American racing royalty A. J. Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser. While Castroneves has never managed to add an IndyCar crown to his list of titles, he won the 2020 IMSA Sportscar Championship and has won the Daytona 24 Hours twice-in-a-row in 2021 and 2022.

They are the latest members of US motorsport royalty to make the trip across the pond to the Goodwood Revival. Dario Franchitti made an emotional return to racing in 2019 following his injury-enforced retirement from motorsport following an IndyCar crash in 2013. The same year, four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon made his debut at the Revival, taking part in in an emotional tribute to Sir Stirling Moss.

With Dario the four drivers will be put to the test around the fast and flowing Goodwood Motor Circuit in two of the Revival’s most exciting and crowd-pleasing races. Firstly, there is the St Mary’s Trophy for VIP drivers and owners. A two-parter, the St Mary’s Trophy will this year focus on 1960s saloon cars. Then there is the biggest race of the Revival weekend – and one which famously pits European engineering against American muscle – the RAC TT Celebration. Jaguars versus Ferraris versus Cobras give no quarter in one of historic racing’s most famous competitions.

Johnson, Dixon, Castroneves and Franchitti join the already-announced 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button racing at the Goodwood Revival, with this year’s event already shaping up to be one of the best ever.

The Duke of Richmond said: “It’s a privilege to be joined by some of the most renowned and successful IndyCar drivers at this year's Revival. I am so delighted that Helio, Scott, Dario and Jimmie will be joining us this autumn and we are all looking forward to the incredible spectacle these legends of motorsport will bring to the event.”

More details about the cars that the three will race in are set to be announced over the coming months as well as details of more drivers set to join them on the grid. Tickets are already limited so make sure you visit ticketing.goodwood.com as soon as possible for more details.
