Taking pride of place in the Earls Court Motor Show, the all-new Defender will feature alongside its earliest ancestor – a pre-production prototype of the original 1948 Series 1. While 71 years of innovation and engineering separate the two, both are unmistakably Land Rover, boasting the boxy and rugged DNA of the Solihull manufacturer.
The new Defender is a reinvention of the 20th century icon, perfectly suited to the demands of the modern adventurer. Gone are the sharp edges and exposed rivets, and in their places is a slew of new technology, including fully independent suspension, 3D surround cameras, a touch screen and a 5G system that allows the car to automatically update or fix itself via data transfer.
