Video: 2022 Sussex Trophy full race | Goodwood Revival
We started to feel a little sad watching the formation lap of the Sussex Trophy, purely because, as the penultimate race of the weekend, we knew the 2022 Revival was drawing to a close. But then we saw the cars line up on the grid and blast away towards the first corner, firing off in a storm of tyre smoke and engine noise. We weren’t sad any more.
The Sussex Trophy is a 25-minute dash packed with sportscars and production sports racing cars that competed between 1955 and 1960, which, roughly translated, means ‘a field of exceptionally good-looking classic racers with gloriously sonorous exhaust notes’. There was a Ferrari 246S Dino and a 290 MM/250 TR, two Jaguar D-types, a Maserati 300S, seven Lotus-Climax 15s, plus Coopers, Tojeiros, Listers and more. Sam Hancock was on pole in the 246S Dino, but could he convert the win?
