Video: Incredible track battle between massive Thunderbird and tiny Alfa
Every year, the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul always produces some of the more memorable moments of the Revival. The little vs. large nature of the race so often leads to some pretty eye-catching moments, much like this brilliant battle between a huge Ford Thunderbird and a relatively tiny Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
It begins, appropriately, at St. Mary’s corner, with Dickie Meaden throwing the Alfa around the outside of Bill Shephard’s enormous Thunderbird, and the two then fight it out for the remainder of the lap, the lightness and agility of the Alfa combating the heft and grunt of the Thunderbird. It makes for spectacular watching, and we love it.
You can be sure there will plenty more action like this at the 2022 Goodwood Revival, not only during this year’s edition of the St. Mary’s Trophy, but throughout the weekend as many of the worlds best historic racers descend upon Goodwood ready to go door to door once again.
