Video: Cooper-Climax tastes the tyre wall

Skinny tyres and a less than optimum surface meant that drivers in the Brabham Trophy, for rear-engined Grand Prix cars from 1954 to 1960, had to be on their game.

Every corner provided a very ready risk of an off, and Rudi Friedrichs fell victim during testing. His Cooper-Climax T53 'Lowline' stepped out, he over-corrected and, after a protracted 'moment' found himself nudging the tyre wall. Watch the moment in the video above.
