F1’s new visorcams have been an absolute boon to TV coverage this season, taking us closer to what it’s like to be a Formula 1 driver than ever before. But this one might just top them all.

If you don’t know, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, with six F1 titles between them, crossed the line at the end of the Japanese Grand Prix just eleven thousandths of a second apart in sixth and seventh.

Alonso had dropped down the field after being one of the only drivers to elect to change tyres a second time. But, with everyone else’s tyres falling right off a cliff, Alonso was lapping up to four seconds a lap faster than the rest of the field. After her had carved past other cars, including Mercedes’ George Russell, the future Aston Martin driver caught the man currently in that seat for sixth.

On the final lap, with just 130R and the chicane to go, we join Alonso in his helmet as the two go to battle. The skill to watch the through the chicane, running side-by-side, skating both on a sodden track and around each other is incredible to watch. And then to top it off we get a view of Vettel from his helmet, to hear his reaction to this incredible fight.

Has there been a better set of onboards this year? Probably not.
