08th October 2019
Seán Ward

Goodness only knows how, but it’s October already. That’s right, October. The mince pies are being wheeled out in the supermarkets, the days are becoming shorter, and we’re almost a month on from our final motorsport event of the year, the 2019 Revival. Time flies when you’re having fun.

Dani Pedrosa: “ I didn’t even know if the track was going right or left…”

Yes, you read that correctly. MotoGP superstar Dani Pedrosa arrived at the Motor Circuit for a weekend of racing at the Revival, but jumped straight off a plane and onto a 57-year-old bike he’d never ridden before at a circuit he’d never been to… How did he get on?

The four-cylinder Ferrari 500 TRC that won at Le Mans in 1957

Ferrari is well known for its magnificent V12 and V8 engines, but four-cylinders? Perhaps less so. And yet in 1957, this Ferrari 500 TRC won its class at Le Mans, powered by a 180bhp, 2.0-litre four-pot.

Video: A first-hand account of the 1959 RAC TT from Ted Welch IV

There were many great moments at the Revival, but hearing from Ted Welch was a real joy. Ted was a timekeeper here at Goodwood for the 1959 Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy. It was that race in which Stirling Moss’ Aston Martin DBR1 caught fire in the pit lane, after which Moss jumped into another DBR1 to finish the race, winning the World Sports Car Championship in the process.

People have some funny ideas, don’t they? Proof of that is the Howmet TX we found at the 2019 Monza Historic. A full interview with the car’s owner, Xavier Micheron, will be coming soon, but for the time being enjoy this very loud, very surreal onboard…

GRRC Original: Rescuing an icon – how the Peugeot 908 came to Britain

Peugeot’s prototype hopeful, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, raced from 2007 to 2011, claiming the top prize at Le Mans once, in 2009. Goodwood regular Nic Minassian was part of the Peugeot team, and while his best finish was second at Le Mans behind the wheel of a 908, the cars hold a very special place in his heart. Saved from the scrapyard: the Riffard‑Renault Tank

One of the coolest looking cars at this year’s Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard might have turned to dust were it not for Renault. Built to tackle speed records, the Riffard-Renault Tank is unique and insanely cool.
