Video: Racing in a deluge at Sebring 1965 needs to be seen to be believed

Looking back at the snowy gusts at Members’ meeting, it got us thinking: What other meteorological marvels have befallen race meetings in years gone by? The 1965 Sebring 12-hour immediately springs to mind…

Scenes of mid-'60s sportscars slowly wading across the flooded Sebring paving amid a savage deluge are jaw-dropping. The commentators continue with flashes of bewilderment and amazement in the voices. “…As mechanics wade into their jobs… It’s the worst deluge ever recorded at Sebring.” Shots of enormous curtains of spray barreling up with a barely-visible Porsche 904 amid them are scarcely believable. Are these the craziest race conditions ever?
