Rally drivers, Le Mans racers, F1 stars: they’re all shot through with an otherworldly ability we mere mortals find difficult to comprehend. “A different breed” is a cliched description of these drivers these days but there’s one kind of speed machine operator we think there are few other appropriate descriptions for: Isle of Man riders. If you need proof, we have it right here.
Video: Riding in the Isle of Man TT looks unfathomably fast
Ride onboard with Andy Farrell and his 600cc Kawasaki ZX-6R for last lap of the Manx Grand Prix, and watch as these incredible riders dispatch the TT course at a speed that makes the video looks like it’s on fast forward. As the tachometer flutters between 14,000 and 17,000rpm, the bikes are ricocheting between the walls and across the white lines at speeds you’d scarcely believe. Then through towns and villages as cottages, village shops and spectators fly past, on and on for the 38-mile course. This onboard has more in common with jetfighter POVs than most car POVs. Big respect to these boys and girls who, we’ll say it again, of anyone, are a different breed.
