The deal is being hailed as "historical" by members of the FIOM and FIM-CISL unions because it reduces working hours without reducing pay.
The legacy of Covid-19, which enforced increased flexibility in working practices, provided proof of concept for the four-day week, and similar schemes in countries like the UK have found they increase productivity, improve job retention and recruitment, and reduce days lost to sickness.

Lamborghini workers on a two-shift schedule will alternate between five and four-day weeks, cutting 22 days off the working year. Staff on a three-shift rota, which includes night shifts, will have two four-day weeks alternated with one five-day schedule.
A representative from the FIOM and FIM-CISL union said: "Work less and work better; this is the principle that guided this negotiation and which is part of a comprehensive reasoning."
