Times are tight at the moment, which is obviously why you need to get our verdict on the new 545PS (401kW), 770Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8-powered Bentley Bentayga S. What has to be one of the most imperious and luxurious SUVs available has been around for six years now, in which time a number of rivals have sharpened up and joined the fray.
Still, it’s been nipped, tucked, tightened and given a heart transplant, to the point the old Flying B-badged blunderbuss is still on form. The trick is just picking between the various versions. This could be the sweet spot in the range. Then again, the wider question is, what even is the point of these sorts of cars anyway, especially in today’s world…
