There was minor outrage in certain circles recently that Ferrari apparently wouldn’t allow anyone to time its 458 Speciale on the track against certain rivals. It seems that the truth was slightly lost in translation, because when I asked if I could time a Speciale against a Porsche 911 GT3 without the presence of a large red truck with nine sets of tyres and seven different engine maps the answer was ‘absolutely, no problem.’
It still turned up with a little red van and some spare tyres – primarily to allow me to destroy a few – and that was it. Porsche was typically relaxed. ‘Collect the car from Reading HQ, enjoy it, and drop it back when you’re done.’ That kind of confidence is very attractive, isn’t it?
We were a little bit unlucky with the weather, but still had a cracking few days with both cars.
I’m so happy to be producing videos again. They won’t be as frequent as in the DRIVE days, but I’d like to think we can manage 2 or three a month.
Enjoy the vid.
