It’s not long since the Super Duke was all about passion, at the expense of any attempt at practicality, but the GT appeals to the head as well as the heart. Its comfort and big fuel tank allow a range of over 150 miles, despite the engine’s thirst when used hard. Useful touches include daytime running lights, cruise control and self-cancelling indicators. There’s room for a full-face helmet in each of the accessory panniers. Other extras include a heated seat to back-up the hot grips that come as standard.
Despite all that, long-distance riders might regard this KTM as more of a sporty Super Duke than the more relaxed Gran Turismo machine suggested by its GT initials. It certainly comes from the lean and sporty side of the sports-tourer class. But for riders who want a powerful, entertaining, sweet-handling bike that can shrink distances on demand, this most versatile and well-equipped member of KTM’s family of hardcore V-twins makes perfect sense.
