The Mercedes EQXX is perhaps the car the least suited to a full-bore run up the Hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Why? Because it’s a car designed with a very pure and single-minded focus on maximising driving range from its all-electric powertrain.

The long tail bodywork, active aerodynamics, lightweighting and Formula E expertise in the motors has culminated in a claimed range of 620 miles, though Mercedes recently hypermiled it for almost 750 miles.
It won’t be getting anywhere near that figure for its runs up the Hill however. There’s nothing efficient about the way we have our guests send cars up here. It’s cool to see such an innovative vehicle do its thing however, especially given how good it is to look at. A successful experiment.
