It might surprise you to know that there’s a Land Rover Defender that can accelerate to 62mph as fast as a Caterham. Then again, big though the Defender is, with a 552PS (406kW) V8 under the bonnet it was bound to be spritely.
The Defender V8 is the ultimate Defender, a British rival to the Mercedes-AMG G63 that’ll hit 62mph in 5.2 seconds on its way to almost 150mph and set you back around £100,000. A big price to pay, that’s for sure, but for how much longer will we be able to enjoy burbling supercharged 5.0-litre V8s?
