Video: Rare Jaguar XJ220 LM timed Goodwood run
The XJ220 road car wasn’t the car it was supposed to be. It was supposed be a 220mph, all-wheel-drive, 6.2-litre V12 hooligan, and one of the greatest cars ever made. Instead it was rear-wheel-drive, the top speed was ‘only’ 212mph and the V12 was replaced by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6. But, even so, it was a very fast and very capable machine, and Jaguar thought it would be rude not to race it. Enter the Jaguar XJ220 LM.
Officially the XJ220-C, it was raced only in 1993, with three cars entered into the 1993 Le Mans 24 Hours. Two of the cars retired but one, driven by David Coulthard, John Nielsen and David Brabham, finished on the podium. Sadly it was disqualified after the race, but still, it had proved its worth.
And in 2014, multiple Timed Shootout champion Justin Law threw the XJ220 up the Hill and held absolutely nothing back. Testament to that is how sideways Law got through the second corner, just in front of Goodwood House… Talk about commitment.
