The Brooklands Trophy has only been held a handful of times in the Goodwood Revival’s near 30-year history, but the rich heritage of the post-vintage and pre-war machines on show means it’s always a welcome addition to the race list.

Duncan Ricketts was the first ever winner of the Brooklands Trophy in 2004 aboard a Riley Dixon Special, and he followed up his historic achievement with another victory in the same car the year after.
Mark Hales’s 2006 victory aboard a Bugatti Type 35B marked the only time to date that the top spot hasn’t been taken by either a British or Italian car, with subsequent winning machines including the likes of Aston Martin, ERA, Frazer Nash and two wins by Alfa Romeos.
There was no doubt that the 2019 winner would be a Bentley, as the entire grid was made up of the same marque in celebration of its centenary. Bentleys of this era are virtually synonymous with the Le Mans 24 Hours, so they started the race with roofs erected and finished with them lowered, just as they had to in France all those years ago.
The most recent winner was the partnership of Duncan Pittaway and Eddie Williams claimed victory amidst appalling conditions in a Frazer Nash TT Replica, and like on that occasion the Brooklands Trophy returns to the Goodwood Revival for the first time in half a decade with its usual mixed-grid format. We can’t wait to see what transpires when these post-vintage thoroughbred sportscars are put through their paces once again.
