2024 Hyderabad E-Prix cancelled
Formula E organisers have confirmed the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix has been cancelled following an alleged 'breach of contract' by the newly elected local government.
The Indian round of the Formula E World Championship was due to take place on 10th February. It would have been the second race staged on the streets of Hyderabad after a successful inugural running in 2023.
This final decision comes in the wake of weeks of speculation after organisers within Formula E recieved a letter from the Government of Telangana that threatened to scupper the race. A statement released by Formula E noted local authorities had made a decision 'not to fulfil the Host City Agreement' and that this stipulated a 'breach of contract'.
Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, said: "It is deeply frustrating that we cannot build on the success of the inaugural race last year, which delivered almost $84million in positive economic impact to the region.
"Racing in Hyderabad was important to showcase the benefits of adopting electric vehicles in a market where pollution from vehicle engines has a massive impact on public health and the environment."
As it stands, there will be no replacement for the race, which means the 2024 Formula E calendar is cut to 16 races.
