Nissan commits to Formula E until 2030

The brand, which has been a mainstay on the Formula E grid since it took over the reins of the e.Dams team from Renault for the 2018 season, will make its involvement in Formula E its longest ever tenure in an FIA world championship.

With the Gen3 Evo cars expected to make their debut for Season 11 of the championship in 2025 with a focus on “improving the spectacle”, the following Gen4 era will bring a massive overhaul in performance and efficiency. Early estimates expect the next generation of Formula E cars, which will race for the first time in 2027, to almost double power output to 600kW, with regeneration potential up to as much as 700kW.

Nissan says its pledge to remain in the sport is a reinforcement of its ‘Ambition 2030’ plans. Makoto Uchida, CEO, Nissan Motor Corporation said: “We’re extremely pleased to continue our involvement in Formula E until 2030.

“In addition to bringing excitement and an on-track spectacle to our fans, our participation in the series will make a significant contribution to our electrification goals set out in our Ambition 2030 plans.

“The technological breakthroughs that we make on the track will provide great insights to the development of our future products. We’re excited to see the future of electric racing unfold and to keep working towards a sustainable world for everyone.”

Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal of the Nissan Formula E Team added: “Formula E is an incredible testing ground for new electric technology, and we can’t wait to continue to develop and compete until at least the end of Season 16.

“The team is on an upward trajectory, and our new headquarters will contribute massively to future growth, with advanced facilities helping us to develop our car for future seasons.”

Nissan’s announcement comes after Lola and Yamaha confirmed they would team up to join the sport for 2025, adding to the long list of manufacturers currently competing in the world’s premier electric motorsport series.
