Goodwood Revival gears up to celebrate 25th anniversary this weekend

Goodwood Revival | Press Article 04/09/23

As the Goodwood Motor Circuit prepares to open its doors to celebrate 25 years of the Goodwood Revival, here's a preview of what's to come.

On-track action
This year, the Goodwood Revival features the biggest-ever Entry List to date for a Goodwood motorsport event. From one of the greatest collections of pre-1966 motorcycles in the opening track parade, to the incredible cars taking part in the RAC TT Celebration, the Revival will bring together an outstanding collection of racing classics to celebrate 75 years of motorsport at Goodwood.

Sustainable racing
As Goodwood celebrates 75 years of motorsport, 30 years of the Festival of Speed and 25 years of the Revival, this year's Revival will host an all-sustainable fuel race – the first of its kind. Taking place on Saturday, the Fordwater Trophy will see a grid of 30 pre-1966 Porsche 911s take to the historic Circuit - for the first ever all-sustainable fuel race in its 75-year history. The Fordwater Trophy will join the 14 other races scheduled to take the Circuit by storm this weekend. Full racing timetable available here.

Spectacular celebrations
Join us as we pay tribute to the life and career of Carroll Shelby, designer of the AC Cobra and Shelby Daytona Coupe. In what would have been his 100th year, Goodwood will bring together some of the most important cars in Shelby's extraordinary career for a brilliant on-track display. Vehicles on show are set to include the very MG-TC in which Shelby made his racing debut back in 1952.

The event will also celebrate Lotus' 75th anniversary across the weekend and welcome a fleet of up to 75 cars from Lotus' illustrious history. The Revival will celebrate this significant milestone with a special on-track celebration paying homage to "The Chapman years" (1948-1982).

Welcoming Ralph Lauren
New for this year, Ralph Lauren will partner with the Goodwood Revival with bespoke activations over the course of the weekend. Guests will enjoy a full hospitality experience set within the historic Race Control building, providing unparalleled views of the track’s start and finish line. The Race Control building will be outfitted with iconic Ralph Lauren home pieces taking inspiration from the automotive world.

All things vintage!

Vintage Fashion
The Revival is defined by its period dress code with tweeds and trilbies for men and pin curls and petticoats for the ladies. Every outfit has a story behind it as the Revival community thrifts, borrows and restyles items in order to embrace the glamorous styles from the 1940s, '50s and '60s. Dress to impress as the 'Best Dressed Competition' judges will be on the lookout for authentic outfits across the weekend with the Best Dressed Competition held at 3pm each day on the Richmond Lawn.

Revive & Thrive
Join the celebration of second-hand style and be inspired to rethink, repair and re-wear by a community of experts and makers in the Revive & Thrive areas across the event. Micaela Sharp, TV presenter and sustainable interior designer and Nerissa Pratt, author and founder of The Bargello Edit, will be headlining Revive & Thrive content, where workshops and demonstrations will empower visitors to breathe new life into second-hand belongings. Dominic Chinea will be headlining the Revive & Thrive heritage craft content, where traditional upcycling wisdom will be shared through a modern lens. The full timetable of talks and workshops is available here.

More than just cars! Off-track attractions

Fun for all the family continues around the event and Over the Road (quite literally!) as visitors can enjoy a variety of festivities. Whether that's making the most of the vintage fairground, exploring the Revival High Street or catching a movie at the Revival Cinema presented by Sky Cinema.

Soaring the skies
Taking flight at the Circuit and a staple of the Revival, the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation exhibition brings together some of the most elegant and rarely seen pre-1966 aircrafts in a magnificent concours d'elegance. With an incredible line-up of planes on show - including the 1953 Grumman Albatross - the exhibition highlights Goodwood's rich aviation heritage and celebrates Freddie March, the 9th Duke of Richmond, former aircraft engineer, racing driver and entrepreneur.

Hammer time at Bonhams|Cars
One-of-a-kind classic cars go under the hammer each year at the Bonhams|Cars sale. Amongst the catalogue of extraordinary vehicles is the 1973 3-litre Martini Racing Works Team Porsche Carrera RSR 'R7' Endurance Racing Coupé, the 1973 Vickers Supermarine Spitfire and the 1989 Lancia Delta Integrale restored by TV presenter Richard Hammond. The Bonhams|Car Auction will take place on Saturday at 1pm, with entrance to the preview on Friday by invitation or catalogue. The Bonhams|Cars marquee, located Over The Road, will be open to all on Sunday.

About the Goodwood Revival
Goodwood Revival is an immersive celebration of vintage lifestyle, championing exceptional craftsmanship and the enduringly fabulous stories told by second-hand treasures. ‘Revive & Thrive’ is the thoroughly modern message woven through the Revival landscape; a clever stitch with which the old is made new again, it runs through every carefully restored classic car, each beautifully preserved piece of clothing as it is passed from one generation to the next.

It is, proudly, the world’s biggest and most glamorous second-hand event.
