The 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard begins today, kicking off four-days of jam-packed motoring delights for your viewing pleasure. The eager crowds are already arriving and the sun is shining over Goodwood – where else would you want to be?
The event commences with The Duke of Richmond officially opening the Festival of Speed, as the first to take to the Hill driving an MG Type C. MG is at the heart of the celebrations this year, pride of place on the Central Feature, and the MG Opening Parade begins at 09:00 this morning, before the MG Celebration Moment at 14:00.
This year’s theme is ‘Horseless to Hybrid – Revolutions in Power’, which highlights the evolution of the motoring industry from the first horseless carriages to the electric advances being made today. Batch 1 spans 1890-1960, which you can see on the Hill at 09:40, followed by Batch 2 covering 1970-2024 on the Hill at 17:20.
If you’re anticipating new reveals, then Batch 5’s First Glance presented by heycar and road bikes is for you, and you can get the first look at these new machines in action at 10:30 and 15:10 today. And you’re here for speed, keep an eye out for the Batch 6 Supercar Run, which will be taking to the Hill at 11:10 and 15:50. Other action-fuelled happenings can be found at, well, the Goodwood Action Sports (GAS) show, featuring some of the biggest names in motorcross and BMX stunt displays. Located in the GAS Arena, you can see the show at 15:00, ahead of the competition at 17:30.
Other unmissable moments of the day are of course, the air show from the Red Arrows, who will dazzle crowds in the skies over the estate at 11:45, and Batch 3 honouring Drift, Joest, Mercedes-Benz, and the great Niki Lauda. These will be on the Hill at 12:55.
