Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness celebrated at 2026 Festival of Speed

If a sportsperson enjoys extreme success, it’s not uncommon for their name to become synonymous with their discipline. As such, while there are a number of riders who have risen to the top of their game and conquered the Isle of Man TT, there are few who’ve proven their talent quite so comprehensively as John McGuinness, celebrated with a Balcony Moment today at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.

For McGuinness, 2026 marks 30 years since his Isle of Man TT event debut, his first attack of the fabled course aboard a Honda RS250R netting him a 15th place finish in the 1996 Lightweight 250 TT. It’s also 20 years since a hat-trick of victories at the 2006 event, where he claimed the top spot in both the Senior TT and the Superbike TT on a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, plus first position in the Supersport TT aboard a Honda CBR600RR.

At the time of writing, at the 2026 Festival of Speed, he has secured 23 victories, with a further 13 second-place finishes and 11 third-place spots. Suffice to say he’s a TT legend, only sitting behind Michael Dunlop and Joey Dunlop with their respective 36 and 26 wins.

To mark his brilliant career – which he says isn’t over yet – McGuinness rode up the Hill with five fellow TT riders, all but one aboard one of his battle-scarred Isle of Man machines. These included Michael Dunlop, the aforementioned most successful rider in the TT’s history, three-time TT winner Davey Todd, 14-time Isle of Man sidecar champion Ben Birchall, seven-time TT winner Michael Rutter, and two-time British Superbike champion Josh Brookes.

McGuinness was last up the Hill, and he certainly made the most of the occasion. If a wheelie before the first corner wasn’t enough, a small burnout in front of Goodwood House as he was welcomed by a crowd of cheering fans was a fitting display of two-wheeled talent.

Joined on the balcony by his fellow riders and the Duke of Richmond, McGuinness said, “There’s nothing like putting the helmet on and charging around the Isle of Man on one of those bikes.” To that end, McGuinness confirmed that while he’ll have to hang up his boots one day, for the time being he just doesn’t want to give up the legendary TT.

Will there be another victory on The Mountain for McGuinness? Of course there’s no way of knowing. Regardless, McGuinness – as demonstrated by the number of fans who turned out to clap and cheer as he approached the House – has left a mark on the world’s most iconic road race that’ll never be forgotten.
