In 2022 the McMurtry Spéirling smashed the Goodwood Hill record with a time that remains unbeaten, and four years on a production version, the McMurtry Spéirling Pure will be on display at the 2026 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard ahead of its full debut next month.

This single-seater electric hyper track car is designed to deliver Formula 1 levels of performance for drivers of varying levels of experience. A decade of research and development — which along the way has seen the Spéirling prototype break the Top Gear track record and drive upside-down — has brought the company to this completion point.
McMurtry’s aim is for a ‘plug and play’ experience, where owners can easily run their car at a track day without any of the hassle that can come from owning an extreme performance vehicle, though there is full factory support available should you wish.
Compared to the car that we saw McMurtry says the Spéirling Pure is 95 per cent new. Starting with the powertrain, where the lithium-ion battery has grown by 40kWh to 100kWh. Power sent to the rear wheels remains at a substantial 1,000PS (746kW) to the rear wheels, but there’s increased regenerative braking capability, and the cooling system has moved from the rear to the front to aid efficiency and aerodynamics.
Other headline figures include a top speed of 190mph, 0-65mph achieved in 1.55seconds, and that incredible fan system that generates up to 2,000kg of downforce at a standstill.
Charging ports are becoming a regular feature at racetracks, so you’ll be able to charge your Spéirling Pure without leaving the paddocks from 20 to 95 per cent in under an hour, while McMurtry has also developed a portable 100kWh energy store in case you’re in desperate need of a top up.

Out on track, the Spéirling Pure has upgraded suspension and the ride height has been raised by 20 per cent. The tyres have been widened, and there’s a new F1-style hydraulic power-assisted steering system.
The Spéirling’s party piece, the Downforce-on-Demand system, features new more durable fan blades as well as new fan motors and an upgraded cooling design. The entire assembly has also been moved to optimise the Pure’s centre of gravity.
Producing staggering amounts of downforce, the system sucks the car to the road, producing an extraordinary sound more akin to a jet plane than a car. McMurtry has built in a second fan to provide a redundancy if something were to go wrong.

Interior and exterior designs are where the Spéirling Pure is mostly unchanged, though the biggest difference is that the fan inlet ducts are now uniquely visible from the rear. A new carbon-fibre monocoque adheres to global safety standards and fits the increased battery while maintaining space inside the cockpit for a driver and passenger. Headlights are also a new addition, making night running an option, alongside a host of other track day safety features.
Le Mans-inspired custom moulded seats are just the start when it comes to customisation options, and there is now a bespoke racing-style steering wheel and central screen that delivers key graphics and information to the driver.
“The Spéirling Pure marks the beginning of a new era in track driving with mind-bending performance to suit all levels of owner, from weekend enthusiasts to professional drivers,” said Thomas Yates, McMurtry’s Co-founder and Managing Director.

“In production form, the car is significantly more usable, but no less outrageous. In terms of exhilaration, grip, acceleration, sound, aesthetics and technology, we offer something that no other manufacturer is able to.
“This final form is not just the result of our engineering ambition, but also the result of listening intently to the people who are going to drive it.”
The first Spéirling Pure models will be delivered to customers later this year, and you can see it for yourself this month at the Festival of Speed.
