Video: Epic Alfa Romeo 155 storms up the Goodwood Hill

The 1990s were peak touring car territory, with series across the globe littered with some of the greatest and coolest tin-top racers to ever exist. We’re talking Volvo 850, Mercedes C-Class DTM, BMW M3, Renault Laguna, and this, the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI.

Alfa Romeo absolutely dominated domestic and international touring car competition between 1992 and 1994. It won in Italy, Germany, Spain and Great Britain with its incredibly well-engineered and hugely powerful 155.

It was powered initially by a 2.5-litre V6 engine producing 426PS (313kW) at up to 11,500rpm, which when coupled to a four-wheel drive system made it blisteringly fast in a straight line. In its first season of DTM the 155 won 13 of the 22 races as Nicola Larini stormed to the drivers’ title, and by the end of its tenure, the car had racked up a record 38 DTM wins.

It of course looks absolutely incredible, with a brilliantly angular shape, but it’s the sound of that roaring V6 which truly captures our attention. We could listen to this thing flying up the Hill at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard all day long. Actually, maybe we’ll do just that.

Only Thursday general admission tickets remain, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday tickets now sold out, although a limited number of hospitality packages for all days are still available. Tickets and packages can be purchased from £70.
