The Richmond & Gordon Trophies is a race that has become a fixture of the Goodwood Revival race list in recent years, running at each event since 2018. And in that time, there is one name that has dominated proceedings…

You could be forgiven for thinking that the Richmond & Gordon Trophies race is the William Nutall show. He has taken his Cooper-Climax T53 ‘lowline’ to victory in no fewer than five of the previous eight instalments of the race.
On those occasions Nutall hasn’t taken the win, it has either gone to a BRM — Andy Willis and Ben Mitchell in 2025 and 2021 respectively — or a Lotus, when Sam Wilson won in 2019.
That’s a pretty close reflection of the original Richmond Trophy in period, which brought together mixed grids of front-engined and mid-engined Grand Prix cars. The more advanced layout often came out on top, and set the template for Formula 1 cars that endures all these decades later.
Another driver who has put his name at the top of the results sheets on numerous occasions is Gary Pearson. In Revival’s earlier days, before the name of the race was suffixed with the Gordon title, he claimed four victories aboard his BRM Type 25.

When Pearson and his BRM weren’t dominating, results show a mixture of marques came out on top over the years. Richard Attwood’s Ferrari 246 Dino first interrupted things in 2009, while the four years between 2014-17 saw new champions crowned on each occasion, starting with the Lotus-Climax 16 of Roger Wills. His achievement was replicated by Rod Jolley in the Cooper-Climax T45/51 in 2015, followed by the Scarab-Offenhauser of Julian Bronson and Tony Wood’s Tecnica Meccanica-Maserati.
It was Andy Willis who restored the BRM to the top spot last year with his P48, but will Nutall reign once again or will a new winner of the Richmond & Gordon Trophies be crowned in 2026?
