Moreover, this was to be Parrish’s final race before retiring after a 50-year career, so the emotions were running high when we followed the pair over the weekend. Ahead of the race Parrish reflects on his friend and hero Barry and the times they shared as team-mates, and the significance of now racing with a grown-up Freddie, who he’s known since he was small.
While Freddie’s experience racing bikes was slightly more limited, he shared a feeling of being at home at Revival, having seen his dad compete at the event. Barry Sheene’s final race victory came at Goodwood in the 2002 Lennox Cup — the race that was renamed in his honour — and before the start of the 2023 edition we see Freddie lead a parade lap aboard that same Norton Manx his father bowed out on.
We also hear from fellow racer Glen English, who recalls competing against that famous #7 bike before Barry himself used it, and describes how they became good friends. English went on to finish second in 2023’s race, but what about Sheene and Parrish? The duo had their sights set on placing in the top 12 overall with their 1962 Norton Manx 30M, but you’ll have to watch to see if they were able to reach that target on such a significant day. Get in the spirit for this year’s Barry Sheene festivities and enjoy some epic motorcycle action.
