Laurens Vanthoor claimed victory in Sunday’s Nürburgring 1000km race, winning the 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series title in the process. The benefit of his pole position was eroded when the first 20 minutes of the race took place behind the safety car thanks to fog and heavy rain. The terrible weather continued for much of the six-hour race, taking its toll on the field. Yet Vanthoor’s lead was rarely challenged and he finished in first place.
Team WRT, which runs Vanthoor’s Audi R8, claimed its third title in four years while Vanthoor himself claims his second consecutive Blancpain title having won the Sprint Series last year. Bentley deserves a special mention, too, coming second in the series in just its first year.
