Mini’s big Paris motor show premiere, the John Cooper Works Clubman, is a five- (six if you count the two-piece rear tailgate) door 148mph flyer with feisty looks and 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds. Oh, and since we are trying to be a little practical, it comes with official figures of 41.5mpg and 154g/km of the gassy stuff.
The JCW Clubman combines plenty of sporting Mini character with a surprisingly decent ability to swallow flatpack furniture/dogs/camping gear – seats-down load area is 1,250 litres, which is more than a Ford Focus offers.
It’s four-wheel drive, has 231hp from the turbo motor, is uprated in all the right places and costs just under £30,000 for the manual. You can bump that up of course thanks to Mini’s signature personalisation offerings, from new touch-screen navigation to Harman Kardon audio.
