Goodwood Revival | Press Article 17/08/17

Having wowed the crowds with the Dunlop Dynasty celebration at the recent Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, Michael and William Dunlop will return to West Sussex to compete in the Goodwood Revival’s Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy.

Revival debutant William Dunlop will be at Goodwood fresh from the Isle of Man Classic TT, ready to share the Black Eagle Racing Team-run MV Agusta 500/3 with his 15-time TT-winning brother Michael. The pair were both in action at the 2017 Festival of Speed, riding their late father Robert’s iconic rotary Norton up the Goodwood hillclimb alongside their own TT machinery.

The annual Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival is a must for fans of nail-biting two-wheel historic motorcycle racing. Split into two twenty-five minute, two-rider heats, this year's event will feature a horde of 1960s Manx Norton, BMW, Matchless, AJS, MV Agusta and Aermacchi bikes taking to the hallowed Goodwood asphalt, many of them ridden by a roll call of top riders

These riders will include three-time world champion Freddie Spencer, who will put one of the immaculate Manx Nortons through its paces around the demanding, 2.4-mile course. Taking on Spencer aboard similar Norton machinery will be former Grand Prix racer-turned TV commentator Steve Parrish, as well as 2000 World Endurance Champion and former Swedish fighter pilot Peter Linden.

The two fastest women around the Isle of Man, Maria Costello and Jenny Tinmouth, will also do battle in the event named in honour of Britain’s double 500cc world champion Barry Sheene. Costello will saddle a 1954 BMW RS54, while Tinmouth will take the reins of a 1966 Hansen Honda CR450.

The two-part Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race will run on the Saturday and Sunday of the 2017 Revival, joining an exciting programme of world-class historic car races, all contested by a mouth-watering line-up of competition cars and drivers.
