Excellence Par Excellence

25 June 2016

The Cartier Style et Luxe concours d’elegance is a popular staple of any Festival of Speed, and this year the judges really have their work cut out.

Classes range from ‘Coach and no Horses’ which showcase pre-1900 veteran cars to ‘English Grace, American Pace’ for Anglo-American V8-engined GT cars. The ‘Gandini’ Ranging Bulls’ category is proving especially popular with Festival-goers, with a sextet of Lamborghinis styled by the brilliant Marcello Gandini looking suitably at home on the front lawn of Goodwood House.

Rather more regal are the V12 pre-war Rolls-Royces in ‘The Fabulous Phantom’ class, while Dieppe’s greatest-ever marque in being honoured in the ‘Alpine Pass and Present’ category. The panel of ten hand-picked decision-makers include Ferrari’s vice-president of design, Flavio Manzoni, Christies’ chairman Viscount Linley and model and sometime powerboat racer, David Gandy. The results will be announced tomorrow afternoon.
