The Freddie March Spirit of Aviation presented by Bonhams returns for its 22nd year at the Goodwood Revival. Bringing together some of the most elegant and rarely seen machines from the history of aviation, it is a magnificent concour d'elegance of pre-1966 aircrafts. An integral part of the Revival, the exhibition highlights Goodwood’s rich aviation heritage and celebrates Freddie March, the 9th Duke of Richmond, former aircraft engineer, racing driver and entrepreneur.
In the spotlight will be the 1942 Consolidated PBY Catalina, a stunning aircraft built in Canada as a ‘Canso A’ for the Royal Canadian Air Force which entered service in 1943 and retired in 1960. It has operated as a firefighting water bomber in Canada, France and Chile before arriving in the UK in 2004. Now based at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford it remains capable of operating on water and has participated in air shows across Europe.
With an incredible line-up of aircrafts on show, it will be a real battle for first place this year, as our judges award best in show. Joining us from the sky to judge the iconic models will be Former Red Arrows pilot, Kirsty Murphy MB, Red Bull Air race pilot Ben Murphy, aviation operator Peter Teichman, Managing Director of Solent Sky Museum, Sqn Ldr Alan Jones and special judge Dermot O’Leary, television presenter and radio DJ.
An award which is close to our hearts The Rob Wildeboer Cup will honour a much-missed member of the team here at Goodwood. Rob worked in our aviation business for 35 years and was instrumental in establishing and curating the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation line-up.
