Goodwood is delighted to confirm the Red Arrows will once again be soaring across the skies above the Festival of Speed, entertaining the sell-out crowds with thunderous displays of skill and daring on Thursday 23 at 1230 and Friday 24 at 1215.

The Royal Airforce Aerobatic Team are renowned for their spectacular air displays, over 50 years on from their inaugural display choosing only the most skillful and experienced pilots from the RAF to entertain the sell-out crowds at Goodwood. Flying the BAE Systems Hawk T1 aircraft powered by the Rolls-Royce Adour jet engines used by the Red Arrows since 1979, the Arrows introduce new and exhilarating manoeuvres each year.

As last year the ever-popular Red Arrows will stun Festival of Speed visitors following their Friday display by arriving on foot to greet the crowds and to soak up the atmosphere at the world’s largest motoring garden party, exact times still to be confirmed.

The Red Arrows Team Leader for 2016, Squadron Leader David Montenegro, will fly in the Red 1 position for the 2nd time in the skies above Goodwood, having also flown 3 times as a team pilot between 2009 and 2011.

The former Tornado pilot, 38, said: “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a great occasion and it’s always special to receive an invitation to support such a large event.

“Getting the opportunity to visit the event, on the ground, after our display and meet the public is a highlight for the team too.

“The event is an impressive, diverse exhibition of motoring through the ages, from classic vehicles to the present day and the future.”

Dan Garlick, Festival of Speed General Manager said, “We look forward to a spectacular display from the Red Arrows this year. We take the safety of all our events very seriously. Our air displays are chosen very carefully and adhere to the strict regulations and guidelines from the civil and military regulating bodies.  We have fully reviewed our procedures following the tragic events of Shoreham and the subsequent new regulations, and are satisfied that we can offer fantastic air display content safely at Goodwood.
