The Timed Shootout hung in the balance this year as the skies above Goodwood threatened cars and drivers that were traction-limited in anything other than perfect conditions. Needless to say, who would eventually come out on top was anyone’s guess as the runs unfolded.

With Justin Law and the Jaguar XJR-12D out, the main fight came down to these five: Jake Hill in the 1,000PS (735kW) Group A Skyline, Harry King in the razor-sharp freshly run-in Porsche 992 GT3 Cup, Jeremy Smith in the bruiser Spice-Cosworth, Travis Pastrana in his psycho Subaru and Rob Bell in the McLaren 720S GT3X.
A few minutes either side of the coming rain shower could have made the difference at the top. However, a combination of dry conditions just about holding, Rob Bell’s clinically executed run and Pastrana’s fun-to-watch but not exactly speed-conducive blunders, put the mega McLaren on top.
