Aston Martin is to bring the new DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and Valkyrie to the upcoming Revival, and also celebrate two special Aston-Goodwood milestones.

The iconic British manufacturer and our equally epochal Motor Circuit’s histories have been entwined for decades – seven this year, to be precise – and so the company will celebrate two important milestones.

In 1949, the British manufacturer made its first appearance at Goodwood, with W.G. Bingley finishing 10th in the five-lap Lavant Cup at the Easter Meeting.

A decade later, the David Brown Racing Dept. entered the last round of the World Sportscar Championship at Goodwood following a phenomenal 1-2 finish at June’s Le Mans 24 Hours, in which Roy Salvadori and Caroll Shelby stormed to victory ahead of teammates Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frère.

Just two points behind Ferrari at the start, Aston Martin went on to take their debut Championship win at Goodwood in a race which, while successful, was not without incident.

Contesting the 1959 RAC Tourist Trophy were three DBR1s, including one shared by Stirling Moss and Roy Salvadori. Disaster struck when fuel spilled on to their car’s exhaust during a pitstop, sending both their car and a 50-gallon fuel drum up in flames. Jumping into the sister car of Carroll Shelby and Jack Fairman, within half an hour Moss had taken the lead, before going on to win the race (with a lap to spare) and with it the Championship. This incredible win, minus the pit fire, will be recreated at the Revival this year.

While paying homage to these impressive milestones, at the Revival Aston Martin will also bookend its celebrations with its latest engineering masterpiece – the 1,160bhp Valkyrie hyper car, which will feature in the Best of British exhibit in Earls Court.

And finally, in celebration of its 60-year relationship with Zagato and the famed Italian design house’s centenary, Aston Martin will showcase the new DB4 GT Zagato Continuation – its twelfth collaboration.

Also featuring in the Earls Court exhibit, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation will be joined by the likes of the DBS Superleggera Volante, the Vantage and the DB11.

Aston Martin Lagonda President & Group CEO Andy Palmer commented: “The atmosphere that is created at Goodwood Revival is extraordinary and for a brand that is venerable as Aston Martin – extremely appropriate. We are fiercely proud of every day of our unique 106-year history. In 2019, we celebrate three extraordinary anniversaries. Our first race at Goodwood, our historic victory in the World Sportscar Championship and 100 years of Zagato. It is an extraordinary privilege to celebrate these momentous milestones.”
