The opening day of the 2026 Goodwood Revival presented by Dunlop concluded with the world’s most beautiful race, the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy. A breathtaking field of early 1960s GT cars raced into the dusk in honour of ‘Mr. Goodwood’ himself, Sir Stirling Moss.

As twilight settled and headlamps pierced the gloom, a magnificent crescendo of GT exhaust notes erupted from the grid. The front row — a gorgeous Ferrari 250 GT SWB sandwiched between a roaring Jaguar E-type and a nimble Lotus Elite LX — launched into life, hurtling towards Madgwick.

It was Alexander Van Der Lof who galloped into an early lead in his Ferrari 250 GT SWB/C, with Richard Kent's Jaguar E-type glued to his bumper. Behind them, a ferocious war broke out for the final podium spot, as just two seconds covered third through to sixth.

The action escalated as Michael Gans, piloting the Lotus Elite LX, began a pursuit of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB of Joe Macari. In one of the wildest overtakes of the weekend, Gans clipped the grass, executing a breathtaking, sideways drift right in front of the Ferrari to snatch the position.

Then, the weather turned. The glowing headlamps sliced through the dusk as a light shower hit the Motor Circuit, causing the gap at the front of the race to shrink to half a second.

With just 30 minutes remaining the mandatory driver changes began, commencing a dramatic second half to a race where the gruelling pace had already taken its toll. Rick Willmott’s Lotus Elite was forced into early retirement on the grass banking after just ten laps.

Shortly after, the front-running Ferrari 250 GT SWB/C limped into the pit lane with a single functioning headlight, its race run as the exhaust dragged heavily along the tarmac. But on the track, the action never faltered. James Alexander pushed his Aston Martin DB4GT to the limit, its brake discs glowing a fiery red under the dark skies of West Sussex.

As the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy entered its final ten minutes, Yelmer Buurman held a commanding nine-second lead in his Ferrari 250 GT SWB/C. Behind him, Horatio Fitz-Simon put on an masterclass in the Lotus Elite LX, and in a heroic late charge managed to slice the deficit down to 8.6 seconds. But Buurman managed the gap perfectly, safely taking the checkered flag for a magnificent victory to close out the first day of the 2026 Goodwood Revival.
