We’ve looked at in-car footage from the Nürburgring before. Remember that incredible Pagani Zonda R clip? Today we’re revisiting the Green Hell in an extremely fast McLaren MP4-12C GT3 from 2012, but this time we’re on board for the full course including the Grand Prix circuit.
The driver is Arno Klasen, who was driving in the German ADAC endurance championship for Frankfurt based Team Dorr. The team had a strong presence in the championship in 2012, with a driver line-up that included McLaren’s Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin, who you’ll remember won the Whitsun Trophy at the Revival and whose gorgeous McLaren M1B we featured recently as one of our Goodwood Greats.
But for this part of the event we’re riding with Herr Klasen, and he looks like a man seriously enjoying his work. We begin on the Grand Prix circuit and some slower traffic (which is just about everything else out there) being dispatched. The slower cars pop up every now and then to punctuate a lap that seems more ‘qualifying’ than ‘race’ in terms of its intensity. The man is on it!
Add not only a camera showing the driver’s efforts, but also gauges showing g-forces and speed and this is a very entertaining 10 mintues. So, which would you rather be given to play with; the Pagani or the McLaren?
