Perhaps one of the broadest of automotive genres is the SUV. The breed has flourished in recent years, and Geneva has quite the variety coming to the fore. From a Maybach G-Wagen convertible to a Mazda crossover: Here are our favourites…

Our five SUV favourites from Geneva
Range Rover Velar
We might have already mentioned this car in passing, but it really is top of the tree at the show for combining fresh design (apart from that familiar family face…) with smart drivetrains and a tempting price bracket.
Jaguar I-Pace
Yes, we’ve seen it before, but not in this vibrant orange/red, with the black leaper on the boot. How we want to drive it ahead of its 2018 debut.
Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet
In a world of electric vehicles, give it up for the stretched-wheelbase G-wagen convertible with Maybach design, an AMG-derived 6.0-litre V12 engine, 600-plus horsepower and a price tag of ÂŁ658,000 please.
Volvo XC60
It looks even better in the flesh at Geneva. The XC60 accounts for 30 per cent of global Volvo sales, and this one takes the market to new levels of luxury inside; this or a Range Rover Velar?
Mazda CX-5
Launched in the deep metallic Soul Red paint that Mazda does so well, the new CX-5 looks like being one of the best crossovers on the market when it goes on sale in the summer. Sleeker light all round, a fresh interior and quicker throttle responses mark out the new model.
