Having one car in your range to despatch the 20.6km of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife “Green Hell” in under seven minutes is an impressive feat for any manufacturer. But to have three of them? It must be Porsche…

The manufacturer’s third car to record the feat is the 911 GT3 RS, the most powerful naturally-aspirated 911 ever with 513bhp, which joins the 918 Spyder and 911 GT2 RS in Porsche’s exclusive sub-7-minute club.
The GT3 RS’s time of 6 minutes 56.4 seconds is 24 seconds faster than the that achieved by the old GT3 RS, says Porsche. For the hot lap, the car was driven by Porsche works driver, Frenchman Kévin Estre. A second driver, Lars Kern, was only tenths of a second slower which Porsche GT line director Andreas Preuninger says shows how driveable the car is at the limit.

“For a driver, each of the car’s thousands of parts have to feel like one – that’s an unbeatable strength of the GT3 RS. And what especially delights me is how much fun Lars and Kévin had when driving that car,” said Preuninger.
Watch the video, it’s worth it for the sound alone; an un-turbocharged flat-six revving to 9,000rpm is hard to dislike…
