30 NOVEMBER 2021: Goodwood is delighted to announce that tickets for Eroica Britannia, the world-famous cycling lifestyle festival, will go on sale on Monday 6 December at goodwood.com.

Eroica Britannia’s new home invites cycling fans to polish their bikes and gear up for an unforgettable weekend of family-friendly fun, cycling heritage, live music and sensational food and drink over the weekend of 6-7 August 2022.

The event is a celebration of Sussex and cycling’s glorious past, with three epic rides across the South Downs, starting and finishing at Goodwood’s famous Motor Circuit.

Cyclists dressed in stylish vintage kit and riding the world’s finest classic racers will follow in the tracks of cycling heroes, stopping off at award-winning vineyards, historic houses and other Sussex landmarks along the way.

We are also pleased to share that Eroica Britannia customers who purchase their tickets before 31 March 2022 will be able to benefit from the UK Government’s ‘creative industry tax relief’ with a reduced VAT rate of 12.5% applied to their entry tickets.

At the current reduced VAT rate, we have a range of ticket options on offer starting from £38 for a day ticket, £56 for a weekend and £70 for ‘The Ride’ ticket, which includes weekend event access (prices will return to the full VAT rate from 1 April 2022). Children aged 12 and under go free, and Young Person tickets are available from £19 for those aged between 13 and 21 years of age, with camping available for those looking to make a weekend of it with friends and family.

AN UNFORGETTABLE WEEKEND

On Saturday, visitors can participate in various activities at the Motor Circuit, which will come alive with bands, live DJs, pop-up shops, cocktail bars and food stalls promoting the very best regional produce.

Visitors can expect plenty of fun for all ages, including cycling races around the Motor Circuit, time trials, family rides and best-dressed competitions. In addition, cycling manufacturers will be on-site, displaying a vast array of modern bikes that visitors can test and buy.

Sunday will present ‘The Ride’ ticket holders with a choice of three Classic Rides designed by Eroica Britannia’s longstanding route-planner Marco Mori. The shorter 25-mile route will suit all abilities, whilst the longer 60-mile and 100-mile endurance routes are seen as thrilling tests of stamina and grit.

All the routes will take in Goodwood’s iconic Hill Climb and pass the historic 1982 UCI World Championships finish line at the top of Kennel Hill.

A CELEBRATION OF SUSSEX

Eroica Britannia aims to showcase the region's best businesses, venues, and experiences, creating an exciting opportunity for the local community to welcome cycling enthusiasts and their friends and families.

An integral part of Eroica Britannia’s Classic Rides are the pit stops, celebrating the region’s fabulous food and drink.

Cyclists will visit the award-winning vineyard at Ashling Park Estate, with other Sussex producers to be confirmed soon. Sussex landmarks such as Stansted Park will also feature on the longer routes. In addition, each pit stop host venue will have a presence at the Goodwood Motor Circuit for those not participating in the rides.

GOODWOOD’S CYCLING HERITAGE

Goodwood has a rich cycling heritage. The UCI World Championships, which took place at Goodwood in September 1982, featured a thrilling finish watched by some 65,000 people in which the Italian Giuseppe Saronni took the world title from the favourite Greg LeMond.

Eroica Britannia will celebrate the 40th anniversary of that moment and other stories about cycling heroism at the 2022 event.

More recently, Goodwood has opened the Motor Circuit for cycling for the whole family on certain Sundays and Wednesday evenings, allowing enthusiasts to cycle in a safe and controlled environment away from traffic and uneven road surfaces.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon said: “Eroica Britannia is set to be a fun-filled and unforgettable weekend for cycling enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. We’re looking forward to welcoming people who want to explore Sussex on two wheels and enjoy a weekend of cycling heritage, camaraderie, great live music and delicious local food and drink.”

Danielle Dunfield from The Great Sussex Way, the organisation responsible for Tourism in Chichester District, said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase our amazing countryside, local produce, restaurants, cafés, pubs and attractions. We look forward to working with our local businesses, accommodation providers and wider community as the event develops.”

Further details about the different routes and the festival entertainment on offer will be revealed in the coming months. Find out more and sign up for ticket alerts here, and follow Eroica Britannia on our social channels:  Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube

About Eroica Britannia
Eroica Britannia is a classic bike festival inspired by the original Eroica event in Tuscany, which first took place in 1997 as a tribute to Italian cycling champion and anti-Nazi resistance operative Gino Bartali.

Founded by Giancarlo Brocci, the event sought to recreate as closely as possible the conditions in which Bartali raced, from the historically accurate bicycles and kit to the unpaved roads.

Brocci encouraged riders to ‘discover the beauty of fatigue and the thrill of the conquest’ - a theme that thrives to this day and brings an infectious sense of adventure and a desire to push boundaries. Today it has become a worldwide phenomenon, with events in Japan, South Africa, the US, Spain and the UK.

Tim Hubbard and a group of cycling friends launched the British outpost of Eroica in 2014. The first two events took place at Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District. It then moved to nearby Friden Grange for two years before returning to Bakewell in 2019. Goodwood acquired the event in 2021.

Eroica Britannia is the largest in the Eroica family and was the first to add a family-friendly festival to the event, offering cycling enthusiasts the chance to enjoy a weekend of heritage, style, the best local produce music and entertainment with the joy of cycling leading the way.
