On 14th July 1951, José Froilán González took the chequered flag at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to claim his first Grand Prix victory. There has been perhaps no more significant or historic achievement, because it was also the first Formula 1 victory for Scuderia Ferrari.

It was a triumph that wrestled the winner’s wreath away from Alfa Romeo for the first time at a World Championship event outside of the Indianapolis 500, a moment that instigated a seismic shift in the landscape of Grand Prix racing.

The Alfettas had been the dominant cars in motorsport for the best part of a decade following World War II, but Ferrari had slowly been building a force capable of stirring up the status quo. González was part of a line-up of drivers that included Luigi Villoresi, Pierro Taruffi and Alberto Ascari, who between them instigated the rise of Ferrari at the wheel of the V12-engined 375.

Seventy-five years and more than 1,120 Grands Prix later, Scuderia Ferrari has grown to become synonymous with F1. The longest standing and most successful team in the sport, Ferrari has won more World Championships and more races than any other.

Some of the greatest names in motorsport — Ascari, Fangio, Hawthorn, Hill, Surtees, Lauda, Scheckter, Schumacher and Räikkönen — have all won titles in red, while others like Trintignant, Collins, Bandini, Amon, Ickx, Regazzoni, Villeneuve, Alboreto, Berger, Alesi, Barrichello, Massa, Alonso, Vettel, Leclerc, Sainz and Hamilton have all successfully represented great Italian marque.

For three quarters of a century, Ferrari has captured the imagination of F1 fans all over the world, and it remains to this day the single most famous motorsport brand. It makes sense, therefore, that Goodwood will be shining a spotlight on its success, remembering all 248 Grand Prix victories, 16 Constructors’ Championships and 15 Drivers’ Championships at the 2026 Festival of Speed.

Tickets for the Festival of Speed are limited. Only Thursday admission remains but hospitality packages for all four days are available. Missed out on a ticket for Friday or Saturday? Find out how you can access our sold-out days with one of our new packages.
