The artisans of Goodwood Revival: Fortis

07th September 2026

The Goodwood Revival presented by Dunlop is full of vibrant shopping spots where you can pick up beautiful, handcrafted wares. Ahead of this year’s event, we’ve spoken to the creative minds behind a selection of these items, who will be trading at the Revival, to learn more about their creative processes.

Outdoor clothing company Fortis will be very much part of this year’s Revival shopping offering, sharing the event’s emphasis on craftsmanship, quality and timeless style. Products are built using modern materials and technology, but are designed, cut and manufactured in the UK by skilled artisans.

Whatever the weather may be, clothing is always an essential part of Revival, and not only for the dazzling outfits on display across the three days, but also for shoppers browsing the High Street, the lanes and the bustling Over the Road shopping village.

At the 2026 Revival, Fortis will introduce one of its latest products: an ultra-lightweight waterproof jacket made using an advanced aerospace-derived fabric. The result is a garment that is remarkably light while remaining exceptionally durable, windproof and waterproof.

Visitors to the Fortis stand during the event will also be able to explore the brand’s latest fabric developments, including a digitally printed tweed-inspired proTT range, which combines the traditional appearance of tweed with the performance benefits of modern technical fabrics.

“We believe in creating products that are built to last, repairable and made with purpose rather than following fast-moving trends,” the team told us. “Many of our garments also take inspiration from traditional country and utility clothing, so there is a natural connection between the timeless style seen at Revival and the functional outdoor clothing we produce today.”

That connection also extends to Revival’s Revive & Thrive ethos, which Fortis says it champions as a business. “Our performance outdoor clothing is manufactured in our Devon factory and designed to give decades of service. We offer an in-house repair service to encourage our customers to repair, rather than replace.”

Founded nearly 30 years ago, Fortis remains a family-owned British manufacturer. The company adds: “We have complete control over quality and can produce garments to order rather than in huge volumes. Our heritage lies in creating technical clothing for people who rely on that clothing every day, whether that’s working in the countryside, exploring the outdoors or simply spending time in the elements.”

That balance of heritage and innovation is particularly fitting for Revival. Many garments worn during the 1940s and 1950s were designed with practicality and longevity in mind. Longer cuts, generous pockets, durable fabrics and understated styling were all hallmarks of those eras — principles that still influence much of what Fortis produces today.

“While our designs are rooted in timeless British outdoor clothing, the technology behind them is thoroughly modern. Waterproof and breathable membranes, taped seams and advanced performance fabrics deliver levels of comfort and protection which weren’t available to previous generations.”

So, how would a 1940s overcoat stand up to a smart new 2026 Fortis raincoat in terms of performance and style?

“In terms of style, both have their place. A well-tailored 1940s overcoat is timeless and still looks fantastic today. The silhouette, structure and attention to detail remain hugely influential. However, when it comes to performance, modern technical clothing has transformed what is possible. A Fortis raincoat offers complete waterproof protection, breathability, reduced weight and greater comfort in prolonged wet weather conditions.

“Perhaps the most interesting thing is that the original purpose remains the same — we’ve simply had 80 years of innovation to refine the concept!”
