Part 2 of the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul injected some V8 thunder into the Sunday afternoon schedule at the 2026 Goodwood Revival presented by Dunlop. This legendary two-part race gave spectators the ultimate dose of 1960s saloon car action, contrasting the weekend’s elegant La Dolce Vita celebrations by bringing aggressive, door-to-door racing to the forefront.

Basking in the brightest sunshine of the weekend, the monstrous Ford Galaxie 500 of Fred Shepherd lined up on pole position, flanked by the nimble Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1s of Max Chilton and Nick Sampson. Chilton launched beautifully to snatch the immediate lead, closely followed by the fellow Cortina of Richard Williams, while Shepherd’s heavy Galaxie bogged down on the run into Madgwick.

The big American V8 didn't stay down for long. Before the first lap was out, Shepherd surged back into the lead entering Fordwater, with Chilton hot on his heels. Further back, Nick Swift was already placing his Morris Mini Cooper S into the slipstream of Chris Ward’s Jaguar Mk2, triggering a relentless, bumper-to-bumper battle.

Both machines were being pushed to their ragged edge; Ward clipped the grass and kicked up a massive cloud of dust exiting the chicane, only for Swift to immediately dive down the inside, putting his own wheels onto the turf.

Moments later, the incident repeated itself. The Jaguar mounted the grass at the chicane yet again, allowing the chasing pack of Minis to eat away at the gap while Sampson’s Cortina joined the unfolding chaos. Done with waiting, Swift pulled off one of the most audacious overtakes of the weekend — muscling his Mini past Ward and forcing the Jaguar out onto the grass.

Ward came back fighting, but the duel soon collided with backmarker traffic. The slower Ford Galaxie of Tarek Mahmoud found itself helplessly sandwiched in the crossfire before the battling pair ruthlessly barged their way past.

Ultimately, it was the mighty Minis that triumphed in the mid-pack war. Both Swift and Ben Colburn successfully muscled their way past the Jaguar, which sadly retired onto the grass just moments later. Meanwhile, Nick Sampson had been quietly creeping up on the pack in his Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1, eventually picking off Colburn’s Mini as positions shuffled through the order. The relentless pace continued to claim victims; amidst the racing mayhem Matthew Holme spun his Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA wide off the track and onto the grass banking.

Swift, however, was far from finished. He immediately locked onto his next target, launching a ferocious assault on Richard Williams’s Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 for the final spot on the podium. Diving down the inside and refusing to give an inch, Swift shadowed the Ford's rear bumper, with zero margin for error.

The breathless duel went down to the wire. Leaving it until the very final chicane, Williams just managed to hold his nerve, clinching third place by a mere 0.4 seconds. He joined race winner Shepherd and runner-up Chilton — who had spent the afternoon enjoying their own private duel at the front of the field. This action-packed feast of motorsport was just the thing for a glorious, sun-drenched Sunday lunchtime at the Goodwood Revival.
