A few weeks ago we took a trip to Italy for the 2019 Monza Historic, and there we were greeted by a gorgeous Le Mans class-winning Aston Martin DBR9, and able to get a taste of its howling V12. Today we bring you another V12, this time from the DBR9’s successor, the V12 Vantage GT3.
Video: The beautiful scream of a V12 Vantage GT3
The on board you see here was taken at the 2017 Daytona Classic. The V12 Vantage GT3 uses the same 6.0-litre V12 engine as the DBR9, albeit with a few tweaks – the DBR9 first raced in 2005, the GT3 in 2012. It sounds lovely, as you’ll hear, but it also becomes increasingly obvious that the driver seems to know what he’s doing, and the prototype driver in front is perhaps less confident…
It was at the 2017 Daytona Classis where we asked if the V12 Vantage GT3 might be the last car in motorsport to use a V12. It’s a sad thought, that sounds like this might never be heard again in modern competition, but let’s not dwell on it too much. Let’s just enjoy the soundtrack.
