Origine RS has organised a ‘track day plus’ at Goodwood today. The organisation is a collaboration between ClioV6.net and the Renault Alpine Owners’ Club, and this is the inaugural event. As well as having 60 members booked in for track time, there are plenty more who have come to show their cars, and enjoy the other displays put on by the organisers.
Perhaps the most significant static display is the Alpine 220. One of only nine ever built (and one of five remaining), it’s believed to be the first 220 to ever be on UK soil. It has history. Originally built in 1968, it was modified to ‘short tail’ specification a year later and road registered (uniquely, for an Alpine sports prototype) so it could compete in road races such as the Tour Auto. It also competed in the 1969 Le Mans 24-hour, but retired after 16 hours with alternator failure.
Elsewhere, one paddock was entirely filled with Clio V6s – over 40 of them made this the biggest gathering of the mid-engined hatchback ever in the UK. The number was helped by nine visitors from France. A similar number of Alpines also broke the record for the biggest gathering of those, too. One that drew our attention was a one-off convertible A610, which you can see in the gallery above.
Add in some Renault Spiders, 5 Turbo 2s, a Megane Maxi and even a Venturi and there is quite a gathering of desirable French machinery on show and in action. Fantastique!
