The Golf Mk7 is no more! Long live the Golf Mark 8! The lineage of that standard bearer for hatchback goodness has continued with a new model – and that will eventually mean new GTI and R variants.
Video: Does the Golf GTI TCR render the Golf R obsolete?
You can read all about that new MK8 Golf here, but before it hoved onto the horizon we spent one final weekend with the hottest version of the seventh-generation GTI – the TCR.
This track-inspired GTI is the hottest one ever, with around 280PS it’s as near as you can get to the power the big brother R has without having to power all four wheels. Which is very nearly the only thing that differentiates the two. But with the TCR retaining a little more fun (without the R’s mighty all-wheel-drive system) does that make the R a little redundant? Where does the Mk8 go from here?
