Electrifying the Coventry cat is a subject of much ongoing debate, the deserved success of the fine Jaguar I-Pace notwithstanding. But the I-Pace is still the only fully electric Jaguar available, and after a recent reshuffle at the top seems set to remain so for a while yet, leaving Jaguar’s plug-in hybrids to fight a rear-guard action. Its flagship PHEV is the F-Pace and now there’s a new one.
Jaguar F‑Pace gets more electric power for 2023

Well, a revised one. The F-Pace P400e for 2023 really amounts to a bit of fiddling around the electrification edges rather than any wholesale change, but what’s new seems worth having.
Such as, a bigger battery (now 19kWh) for a longer electric-only range. It’s gone up from 33 miles to 40, which doesn’t sound much but could easily make an important difference if you regularly need to drive in emissions-free mode in areas subject to burgeoning ultra-low emissions zone (ULEZ) regulations.
Good news for commuters then but also business drivers: the P400e’s CO2 now starts from 37g/km which brings down the benefit-in-kind tax rate from 12 to 8 per cent. The same WLTP protocol also means fuel consumption of 176mpg, in theory at least; fuel figures for PHEVs always sound a great deal better than they actually turn out to be.
The P400e might be the F-Pace of the moment but there’s still a family of F-Paces in a new slimmed-down range, and they all get a sprinkling of minor updates.

The entry R-Dynamic benefits from a digital spruce-up with new driver display and the latest Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Alexa voice control. You get wireless device charging and can now navigate using what3words. Wheels go to 19-inches and the headlining goes suede without you having to tick the options boxes. Ditto with more gloss black trim details on the body.
Other models get trim updates too, part of what Jaguar calls a move to make its cars “richer”. The range is apparently simpler than before with R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE Black, R-Dynamic HSE Black, 400 Sport and SVR trim levels and two diesel and four petrol engine options, with mild hybrid offerings as well as the full hybrid P400e. We can’t imagine how complicated it was before….
We are just glad the mighty SVR with 550PS V8 petrol lives on to fight another day. It, and all the hybrids, don’t have that long to go, with Jaguar clinging to its pledge to make nothing but all-electric cars by 2025.
Prices of the latest F-Paces range from £48,660 to £84,940 with the hybrid P400e – which accounts for one in five of all F-Pace sales in the UK – starting at just under £61,000. All are available to order now.
