We’ve all come to appreciate the iconic sportscars designed and built by Porsche, but, if you’ve ever wondered how these glorious cars are put together, you’ll find the manufacturing process itself is a mesmerising and thoroughly impressive operation.
Video: Watch a Porsche 911 GT3 being built in timelapse
Porsche has published this video following the entire production process of a Porsche 911 GT3, from the machining of body panels to the painstaking attention to detail of 1,500 people, through to the final assembly and application of finishing touches and paintwork – in this case a rather regal Gold Bronze Metallic from Porsche ‘Paint to Sample’.
The work that goes into the paint job itself is quite remarkable. The whole car is degreased and covered with a protective anti-corrosion coat, before being primed, painted and then finally covered with a clear coat to finish.
This particular car was built for none other than racer Leh Keen, who is more than a little accustomed to sitting behind the wheel of a Porsche 911.
It’s a dramatic and eye-opening insight into the artistry and skill that goes into building one of these cars, and may well give you a new perspective to exactly how extraordinary they are.
