This year at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mighty BMW M division. The section of BMW that takes reasonably ordinary road cars and makes them into very special machines.

So, we at GRR also thought that this would be the perfect time to celebrate the cars that M turns into such special machines. Because, although they might not be as fast or shouty as the machines from M Division, BMW has made some truly outstanding cars in its time.
And yes, we know that seven is nowhere near enough cars to celebrate BMW’s history in its fullness, but we have to stop somewhere. The car you love most may well not be on this list, we’ve left all full M cars off it – although the 3.0 CSL makes it in as the one that started it all – so don’t get too angry when the E30 M3 is nowhere to be seen, you’ll find that on our list of M cars.
