Times, they are a’changin’. In recent years, Honda has introduced us to its new second-generation NSX supercar. Not ten years after a single clutch F1 gearbox in the then-new Ferrari F430 was considered high-tech’, a 430-esque mid-level supercar rocks up with a twin-turbo V6 connected to a hybrid-electric system and a dual clutch gearbox. Video: Honda's 1,000bhp electric NSX is jaw‑droppingly fast!
Now take that road car, and dismiss it as old-hat. Check out the video above, in which a 1,000bhp fully-electric hillclimb version of the highly acclaimed hybrid takes to Pikes Peak, complete with a “move out of my way” siren in place of the traditional roar of an engine to signal its approach and some reassuringly traditional mental aero. Quite haunting really. It makes us wonder if the internal combustion format we know and love is not long for this world. There’s no denying the pace, though, and there’s no staying the unrelenting march of progress.
